Traveling Tips for a Pest-Free Holiday Season

When it’s holiday season, most people don’t want to think about pests. Pests are a major concern all through the year but they tend to become more during the holiday season. We’ll share with you tips to enjoy your holiday while keeping pests at bay.

Carry a flashlight
When staying in hotel rooms, use your flashlight to check for signs of bed bugs. If you see some brownish red spots on the bed lines, it could be a sign of bed bugs.

Keep luggage closed
Use a hard-sided suitcase to carry your luggage when traveling. Make sure you keep your suitcase closed unless when you are using it. Remember the same pests will be transported to your home if they find their way in your suitcase.

Cover your mattresses at home
When leaving, make sure your mattresses are covered to prevent bed bugs. You can use mattress encasements which are available at your local store.

Put away decorations nicely
If you have lots of decorations, pack them in heavy duty plastic containers and make sure they are tightly closed. Decorations can quickly become a home for rodents and other pests. Packing them in cardboard boxes will not prevent rodents and other pests from invading them.

Wash fabrics before storage
If you have any fabric decorations that need to be put away, make sure they are clean. Fabrics can quickly attract insects if they have dirt and oil spills. Do this to avoid cockroaches, moths and beetles.

Unpack decorations outdoors
When getting the decorations from storage, beware that some of them can have insects that will quickly spread in your home. The best thing to avoid this is to unpack them outside.

Check your Christmas tree for bugs
The Christmas tree can have bugs hiding among the branches. Be sure to check when picking out a tree that you will not be bringing insects along with it to the house. Unwrap the tree outdoors to ensure there are no insects before getting it into the house.

Clean up after meals
There’s probably a lot of cooking during the holidays and it’s easy to attract pests if you don’t clean up after every meal. Make sure the kitchen counters are kept clean; dishes are washed as soon as meals are done and everyone takes up the habit of cleaning up after themselves. Teach the younger kids to keep tidy and neat during the holidays and you’ll have no pests to worry about when it’s all over.

Termites are among the most destructive pests around. They not only destroy property but can also spread germs and contribute to a host of health issues. Dealing with termites as soon as you notice the first signs is important. When the colony becomes big and spreads out it can be difficult to completely eliminate termites. Termite inspection is important because it will help you to avoid future losses and health issues.

When is inspection necessary?

Most people will seek termite inspection when they see any signs of the pest in their property. But what most people don’t know is that termites can spread without the property owner noticing. Having termite inspection on a regular basis will eliminate any fears of having this pest around your property. The pest control experts will visit your property and utilize their skill to identify any signs of termites to advice on how to eradicate them.

Inspections are usually recommended once every year. However, more frequent inspections will be necessary if your home has been exposed to termites in the past or you’ve seen some major signs of infestation. Regular inspection helps you to eradicate the problem early enough before it goes out of hand.

Prevent future termite attacks

When inspection is done, the property owner will be advised on ways to prevent any future termite attacks. For instance, you will be advised to make sure all the wooden items in your property are properly maintained over the years. Getting rid of wood items that are not in use is also an ideal way to prevent termite attacks. If you live in an area that is prone to termite attacks, you may need to seek more frequent termite inspections.

Hiring a suitable expert to perform the termite inspection is very important. An expert will know where to look out for signs of termite infestation. They will give you results after the inspection outlining some of the possible dangers of termites if they are found. You will also be advised on the different options you have to get rid of termites in your compound. Check out http://www.termagon.com for more information of professional termite removal.

You should be able to enjoy your home for a long time. The only way you’ll do this is to ensure there are no pests invading your property. Instead of waiting for the signs of pest infestation to start creeping in, hire an expert to perform the necessary inspection. You’ll save time and protect your property and family from the health issues associated with having termites.
